New This Week
No Fireworks
Absolutely no fireworks at Promontory.
This is a long-standing rule in our community and is even more in focus this year with restrictions from local authorities. Please do not light off anything, including sparklers and Pop Its. As always, violation of this rule subjects the homeowner involved to a fine.
Fire Preparedness
Park City Fire District has remarked that Promontory homes are uniquely prepared for fire, due to the use of con-combustible exterior materials, proper vent screening, and incorporating defensible space when installing landscaping. We are not likely to see a catastrophic fire that engulfs the whole community, as there are not enough big fuel sources nor do we get strong enough winds to cause a spread, and our trails and golf courses serve as excellent fuel breaks. Rather, we are most susceptible to individual homesite damage from drifting embers, so it’s important to clear out all dead vegetation, especially from gutters, and cover vents and other openings with a 1/16-1/8” screen.
Please consider these other simple tips to be prepared:
- Prune tree limbs so the lowest branches are several feet above the ground.
- Fire embers are hot and travel easily in the breeze, so cover any exterior attic, soffit, or under-eave vents with metal wire mesh to prevent sparks from entering the home.
- Clear out dead, dry vegetation under all decks and patios and any that directly abuts the home.
- Consult with PCFD, who make themselves available, free of charge, for homesite evaluations. The Fire Inspection office can be reached at 435-940-2500.
- Ensure your home is marked with a visible, easy-to-read, non-combustible address identifier, in the event emergency response is needed at your home.

- Be sure to familiarize yourself with all Promontory exits in the case of an extreme emergency. View the map below.
In Case You Missed It
Wildlife & Rodenticides
Rodenticides, the poisons sometimes used to kill rodents, have an impact beyond the location where they were initially used. Birds of prey, such as owls and hawks, may be harmed or killed by consuming poisoned rodents, even at non-lethal doses. Additionally, hawks and owls may feed poisoned rodents to their young. We ask that you please use snap traps to control rodent infestations without negatively impacting non-target wildlife.
Landscape Plans
With the arrival of spring, we expect many Promontory residents will be eager to beautify their homesites. If you are considering significant changes to your landscaping, please contact Christine Morr prior to doing any work to ensure your plans are consistent with the Design Guidelines.
Please Do Not Feed The Animals
Life at Promontory comes with a front-row seat to a unique display: wildlife. Between the deer, elk, porcupines, and many others, the landscape is full of animals most people do not have the opportunity to see. As a steward of the open space at Promontory, the Conservancy is tasked with maintaining and preserving this natural environment, including the wildlife habitat. With input from state wildlife offices, we have learned that the best way to do this is to allow the animals the opportunity to live on their own, without any supplemental care. As such, we ask that Promontory owners please not leave out food or other attractants for the animals. Though it may seem counterintuitive, this practice has the potential to do more harm than good.
Thank you for respecting these creatures. We share their space and are fortunate to
have one-of-a-kind access to their world – our collective cooperation will ensure this access continues for years to come.
Pet Policy Reminder
Please consider other Promontory owners when taking your dogs out:
- Even if your dogs are “friendly” they must remain on leash and under your control.
- Dogs should be on a leash at all times, unless at the Dog Park or the off-leash trail leading up to the Dog Park.
- Please clean up your animals’ waste. Bags are provided at the Dog Park and at various locations on the trails.
- Please properly dispose of the waste bags in the garbage cans provided or otherwise. DO NOT leave these bags on the trails or elsewhere.
Conservancy Reminders
Trash Pick up
On trash pickup day, please keep all trash inside your dumpster, with the lid closed. Please DO NOT leave cardboard boxes, furniture, or anything else that won’t fit in the dumpster on the ground – the truck drivers will not stop to collect anything outside the dumpster.
If your weekly trash is more than will fit in your dumpster, please contact Republic Services (435-615-8311) for another dumpster.
Dumpster Use
Just a reminder that the large dumpsters around Promontory are for operational use only. Please do not take your extra refuse to these dumpsters.
If you have more than your dumpsters can contain, please contact Republic Services at
435-615-8311 for an extra can or make arrangements for drop off at the many dumpster sites in the Park City area.
Board Meeting Dates
The Conservancy has tentatively scheduled the board meetings for 2021:
- 2nd Quarter: June 16, 2021
- 3rd Quarter: August 18, 2021
- 4th Quarter: October 20, 2021
- Annual: December 15, 2021
All meetings are scheduled for 10:00 am MT and will be broadcasted online.
Pedestrian Safety
Our community is active, out, and about. Be safe when walking. When walking along a road, walk only on the shoulder (off of the asphalt), as far as practicable from the edge of the asphalt roadway. Where a sidewalk or a road shoulder is not available, walk on the outside edge of the roadway; and walk only on the far left side of the roadway facing oncoming traffic. The best place to walk is on Promontory’s 30 miles of trails.
Street Parking Reminder
All vehicles should be parked in the garage or driveway. This includes parking for any guests, vendors, landscapers, etc. Limited on-street parking is permitted on a case-by-case basis for homes under construction and temporary events (parties, for example). In these instances, we ask that you please contact the Conservancy ahead of the event to coordinate permission. Non-conventional vehicles must be parked in a garage or off-site.
Emergency Preparedness
Be Prepared. Know Your Exits.
- Promontory Ranch Road to exit out the Main Gate or Equestrian Gate, when practicable. These routes are paved and lead to major thoroughfares better able to handle traffic.
- Take Painted Valley Pass south as if going to the Nicklaus Golf Course, but continuing onto the dirt road where the paving ends near the driving range, which eventually leads to Brown’s Canyon
- Go west on the dirt road off of the north side of Saddlehorn Drive in Bison Bluffs neighborhood, near the pump house, which will ultimately connect with Silver Gate Drive, Pace Frontage Road, and Promontory Ranch Road outside of the Equestrian Gate.
Emergency Notifications
Some years ago Summit County created a system to provide phone, email, and text messages regarding emergencies. The system was upgraded such that anyone who previously signed up will need to sign up again.
The alert center also provides information about non-emergency matters in and about Summit County.
