Tom O'Brien's Wounded Warrior Ride

Promontory member, Tom O’Brien, is cycling from coast-to-coast to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and you can help!
Tom grew up in Texas and moved to New Orleans in the early seventies. He graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School (Class of ‘71) and received a 10-speed bicycle as a graduation gift. He loved biking so much he decided he would train all summer and ride his new bike from New Orleans to Dallas. He set out in August of 1971 from New Orleans and made it to Alexandria, LA but had to stop when he realized his 10-speed was too small for his 6’ 3” body and the pain was too great.
The failed attempt frustrated him for years and in 2005 he decided to try again. This time he would ride from Dallas to San Diego and dedicated his ride and raised money for the brave men and women who fight to protect our freedom. In October 2005 his three-week biking journey and fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project began. With a friend driving behind him the whole way, he arrived in San Diego on Halloween!
Now 13 years later, Tom who will be 66 in November and has six kids; Rachel, Michael, Shane, Allison, Shannon, and Brendan, is going for it again! He just started his even longer journey on September 10, 2018, in San Diego and will pedal all the way to Sea Island, Georgia with high hopes of reaching his destination by mid-October. Just like his ride in 2005, this ride will also raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.
