One thing about golfers — we never stop studying our game. No matter how long you’ve been playing, there is always something new to learn about form and technique. The Golf Academy at Promontory, aka The GAP, is designed to nurture beginners and hone the skills of avid players. Private lessons and clinics help lower handicaps in a fun, non-intimidating manner, while the teaching and coaching programs at the Dye Canyon and Painted Valley practice facilities invite you to take advantage of key insights and analysis from our skilled golf professionals.

Neil Jones Director of Golf
Neil Jones

Hailing from Cardiff, Wales, Neil pursued his passion for golf at the University of South Carolina on a prestigious full scholarship. His summers and breaks were spent back home, honing his skills as an Assistant Golf Professional at Wenvoe Castle Golf Club and St. Mary’s Golf Club in South Wales. Neil’s journey then took him to the Wizard Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he dedicated several years before venturing into the TPC Network.

In January 1999, Neil eagerly embraced an Assistant Golf Professional role at the TPC of Myrtle Beach, pouring his heart into the club’s launch with tireless hours. Recognized for his competence, integrity, and unwavering work ethic, he ascended to the position of Resident Golf Professional in 2002. His dedication led to his appointment as Head Golf Professional at the TPC of Myrtle Beach in March 2003, followed by his tenure as Head Golf Professional at TPC River’s Bend in April 2004. After a fulfilling fifteen-year stint with the TPC Network, Neil assumed Director of Golf/Head Golf Professional roles in Greenville, SC, Richmond, VA, and Sarasota, FL. In the summer of 2022, Neil embraced a new challenge as Director of Golf at Promontory Club in Park City, UT.

Neil achieved Class A membership status in the Professional Golfers Association of America in June 2001. Under his leadership, the TPC of Myrtle Beach garnered accolades such as Friendliest Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, TPC Daily Fee/Resort Golf Operation of the Year (2003), TPC Daily Fee/Resort Club Operation of the Year (2003), Best Overall Customer/Employee Surveys (2002, 2003), Best Area Wide Junior Clinic Award (2002), and Top 100 Golf Shop in America (2001, 2002).
