‘Tis The Season For Giving!

Tis The Season

On an unseasonably warm November Day, I was inspired to give. Sure, the dedicated members of the community standing at the traffic lights with their bright orange shirts and “Live PC Give PC” signs, soliciting waves and friendly honks, helped. So did Promontory member Andrea Borg’s email that first brought Park City’s annual day of giving to my attention by asking me to consider donating to Nuzzles & Co on November 4th. But honestly, it was the ease of donating that caused me to take action.

Once I navigated to the Live PC Give PC website and searched through the list of 106 local non-profits, more than one cause spoke to me and I was able to donate to them all with one easy checkout and payment process. Genius for good! In a single day of giving, 3,676 donors provided $1,736,306 for their favorite local nonprofits. A community that organizes for good is worth living in if you ask me, and it turns out that the Promontory Foundation agrees.

The Promontory Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) that supports many local nonprofits, not just on a single day, but throughout the year. The Foundation’s mission is to “connect our Promontory members to our neighbors in the Park City area and create an exceptionally caring community and truly extraordinary place to live.”

Board members Barbara Morelli, Beth Armstrong, Blayne Harper, Illysa Golding, Kerry Norman, Liz King, Mare Piper, Maria Stanley, Nancy Ormond, Peggy Bergmann, Sue Grant work tirelessly to ensure 100% of the Foundation’s member-sponsored proceeds benefit Park City area causes from artists to food banks, free clinics, education and women’s shelters.

The work of these generous and energetic members is never done. The Promontory Foundation that was created in 2009, has no endowment of its own, but instead serves as a conduit for existing charities by providing matching funds for important initiatives. The Egyptian Theater, KPCW, Peace House, People’s Health Clinic, the National Ability Center, and the Park City Institute were some of this year’s lucky recipients.

To support great causes in the community, The Foundation relies on the generosity of the Promontory community, and on fundraising efforts like the sale of bricks for a path at the hospital that benefits both the medical institution and the Promontory Foundation.

This year, the Foundation is raising money by offering pet portraits with Santa at the Shed on Saturday, December 10th from noon until 2 pm. For a $25 donation to the photo, you can go home with a priceless 5×7 photo of your pet with Santa. Stay tuned next holiday season for beautiful Promontory Foundation wreaths!

Tis The Season

Each year, the efforts of the Promontory Foundation culminate in the epic Fourth of July party for all owners and complete with great food, music, and activities for the entire family. As we settle into another wintry holiday season, the memories of BBQs, long days, and summer vacation keep me warm. The energy at the Fourth of July Picnic represents everything Promontory stands for–namely fun, family, celebration, and generosity.

Thanks to the foundation for helping make Park City a better place for us all to thrive.
