The Week Of June 28, 2021
Featured Events and Upcoming Activities!
Please Note:
If you have noticed repairs being made in the fairways on the Pete Dye Canyon Course, it is largely due to the resident elk herd not moving to higher ground as they typically do each spring. When elk are on the grass and urinate, it leaves a circular pattern of dead grass, and we then need to scratch the area and apply seed and sand to grow green grass in those spots again. We are not sure how long or if the herd will stay through the summer, but we also may need to put up some of the elk fences around the greens this summer which we typically do not need to install until fall. It is a pleasure to see the wildlife at Promontory even though at times they create some inconveniences.

This signature event is sure to be one of the highlights of the summer and a great way to kick off a week to remember celebrating family, friends, and freedom! Each summer, the Promontory Foundation hosts a night of great music, food, and unforgettable fun as a way for our Members to come together and support local Park City non-profits. Beneficiaries including Peace House, People’s Health Clinic, Nuzzles & Co., National Ability Center, Egyptian Theatre, KPCW, Habitat for Humanity, Deer Valley Music, and many other cherished Park City non-profits have been among the grateful recipients of our membership’s generous donations through the years. We hope to make 2021 Promontory Foundation’s most impactful years of giving yet.

4th of July at Promontory
Due to the excessive drought and heat conditions in Utah and Summit County, the state and county have banned all fireworks. But the annual Promontory 4th of July picnic and party will still go on with food, games, great music and friends. And since we cannot do fireworks this year, we have contracted for a synchronized laser light show with patriotic music to culminate our party.

In Case You Missed It

New Check-In Policy at The Ranch Clubhouse: Wristbands for Pool Usage
As we enter this summer season, we know that more members and their guests will be enjoying our beautiful Promontory Club, especially our pools. We would like to remind all members and their guests that check in at the Ranch Clubhouse Concierge Desk is required prior to accessing the family pool, adult lap pool, or Kids Cabin Adventure Slide. This has been difficult to enforce as some individuals (sometimes non-members), will gain access to the pools or Adventure slide through the surrounding gates, bypassing the check-in at the Concierge, either out of perceived convenience, to avoid paying guest fees, or because they are not authorized guests of a Promontory Club member. If you have any questions regarding Promontory’s Guest Use Policies, please click below:
In an effort to help us maintain the exclusivity and security of our private club facilities, we will be implementing the following policies at The Ranch Clubhouse:
- At this time, we are continuing with the practice of issuing a daily use gate key at the Concierge desk to adults using the Adult Lap pool. We will begin the practice of issuing daily use gate keys to members using the tennis courts as well so they can gain access to the locker rooms and restrooms via the gate at the bottom of the stairs next to the Hotspot Café. This will enable us to keep all pool gates locked from the outside. Kindly refrain from propping the gates open with towels, rocks, or other objects.
- Beginning today, Monday, June 21st, when you check-in at the Concierge desk to use either of the pools or Adventure Slide, the Concierge will issue a daily wristband to members and their guests. The wristband will help our staff ensure that members and guests are checked in and authorized to use the pool amenities. If you need re-entry to the Ranch Clubhouse family pool after using the Adventure Slide or Adult Lap pool, please show your wristband to the pool attendant at the locked gates for readmittance. Anyone in the pool area without a wristband will be asked to return to the Concierge desk to check-in.
We also remind you that no outside food or beverages, including coolers, are allowed at the Ranch Clubhouse pools, Adventure Slide or Beach House.
We appreciate your support in helping us maintain the exclusivity and security of your club facilities. And if you have not already done so, don’t forget to download the Member App before you arrive on the property so you have access to register your guests at the Gate Houses, check in with your QR code at Promontory amenities, and make reservations for tee times, dining, events and more.
With your smart phone in hand, you’ll be able to check in efficiently using the Northstar App. There is a QR code ‘scan’ icon. Click the bottom right “menu” button. On the top right-hand corner click “Scan In”. When you click it, a QR Code will pop up and can be scanned by the attendant.

Home Services Hot Tip Hard Water
Park City is notorious for having hard water with high mineral contents. While hard water is not a health hazard, it can wreak havoc on your plumbing.
Some of the effects of hard water include:
- Calcium buildup on faucets and shower heads
- Hard to clean water spots on sinks, showers, toilets, and dishware
- Shortened appliance lifespan
- Dry skin and hair
- Faded/discolored clothing
- Clogged pipes over time
A high quality salt-based water softener system will mitigate all of these effects and cut down on costly plumbing repairs. Maintaining the salt level in the softener is one of many items Promontory Home Services takes care of during their routine walkthroughs of your home.
Contact the Home Services team today to learn more about their plans.

Let’s Talk About Birds
Many of you will have met the budding family of Brewer’s Blackbirds who have got an active nest in the Nicklaus parking lot.We recognize that having a feisty bird dive bombing you is a pretty thrilling experience, but we want you to realize they won’t actually harm you. This hovering and swooping behavior is indicative they have chicks who have hatched, which means that within the next two weeks or so, the chicks will have fledged, and will be learning to fly on their own.
Once they have left the nest, the protective behavior of the parents will cease, and we can remove the nests to discourage them coming back to those trees. Per the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, is it unlawful for us to interfere with the nest or the birds in any way. We, like you, will just have to wait out this next couple of weeks, and then do what we can to discourage nesting in the area.
You can find out more about Brewer’s Black birds below.
They are just one of the many species you can catch sight of at Promontory! You’ll also see Violet Green Swallows, Red Wing Blackbirds, Northern Flickers and Black-billed Magpies, just to name a few.

Hot Treatments to Keep You Cool This Summer
Between days at the pool, exploring the mountains, a Tennis match, or a round of golf, you are constantly in motion. All this is great for your body, mind, and soul, but can be very taxing on the body. Regular massage can help increase the mobility of your joints, reduce stress, improve circulation, and increase muscle and tendon elasticity. All of which can help to enhance performance and help reduce the chance of injury.
Summer Maintenance Package
Buy 5 of the same service and receive an additional treatment at no charge.
All individual Spa services are available in a package. See spa desk for pricing.
