The Schaffers enjoy the best of both worlds… a proper, structured lifestyle in Japan and a laid-back, mountain lifestyle in Park City. The family of four is looking forward to coming back to Promontory in June for their second summer!

Mike and Karen met on a ski trip in Vail, Colorado and have been married for 12 years. Mike is from Dallas and after attending Texas A&M he started his career with Goldman Sachs, he currently works in real estate and credit investing with the company. Mike’s job has taken the family to Italy, London, Paris, Singapore, and now Japan where they reside year-round. His wife, Karen is from Colorado and practiced law in Dallas, London, and Paris until they had children, “I went on maternity leave nine years ago and I’m still on it,” she said laughing.

10-year-old, Maddie loves just about everything – dancing, art, singing, soccer, tennis, skiing, yoga, Girl Scouts, reading, and her favorite school subjects are social studies and writing. 8-year-old, Adam is a soccer fanatic – playing and watching it. He also likes skiing, golfing, tennis, swimming, and watching football with his dad. When asked his favorite subject in school he answered without hesitation, “recess and I guess writing, too!”

A few years ago Mike and Karen decided they wanted a place in the mountains. One that offered golf for him, great skiing for Karen, and activities for the kids. After an internet search they found Promontory and decided to visit. The quick drive from the airport and club amenities sealed the deal! Their house was finished just in time for Christmas 2016.
