Utah wasn’t a place the Khan family thought they would be living but now they can’t imagine living anywhere else! Qamar, Yasmin, and their daughters, Eiliyah and Inayah, are full-time residents who remind themselves daily just how lucky they are to live in the beautiful mountains of Park City.

Yasmin and Qamar are both from Atlanta and officially met during college. Yasmin was at the University of Georgia and Qamar was in pre-med at Emory University in Atlanta which is the same school Yasmin’s brother was attending. Yasmin decided to join her brother for an event at Emory and when Qamar saw her he knew he recognized her… turns out they went to the same high school for six months. They dated through college and one of their fondest memories was working as translators and liaisons for the National and International Olympic Committee Members from Pakistan during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

The two eloped in their own city and then quickly started a new life, “We say that we eloped to med school! We went down to the Atlanta courthouse and then moved to California right after,” said Yasmin. It was Yasmin’s work as a paralegal that put Qamar through med school at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in San Francisco. After Qamar graduated from Touro University in 2004 they moved to Chicago for his residency at Rush University. It was in 2008 during the Recession that he was trying to find a job. A job happened to pop up in Salt Lake City and they decided to give it a try. Utah quickly became the perfect place for their family. Qamar now has his own practice, Wasatch Pain Solutions, in South Jordan which focuses on interventional spine and orthopedics.

Their oldest, Eiliyah, is nine and a 3rd grader at Waterford in Sandy. When asked her favorite subject in school the list wasn’t short, “My favorite subjects are… math, science, art, history, pretty much everything,” she smiled! Now if that isn’t impressive enough, when asked what she wants to be when she grows up she responded without hesitation, “I want to be an orthopedic surgeon and professional swimmer.”

Inayah is five and in the PreK-4 program at Waterford. She loves her barbie dolls, dressing up especially in tutus, and she’s happy when she riding her bike and hiking. This little 5-year-old has her heart set on becoming a ballerina and swim teacher when she grows up. The girls adore their two cats charmingly named, George and Clooney.

Now that their daughters are both in school, Yasmin is happy to be back in school herself getting her Masters of Strategic Communications from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. She is also developing a skincare brand with a French/New York based developer that has ties to L’Oréal Paris and Marie Claire. She’s excited about this new endeavor and hopes to bring an innovative product to the market.

The Khans moved to Promontory two years ago after several years in Salt Lake City and are very willing to help other members, so if you just moved here and have questions feel free to contact them! We are so happy to have you a part of our community as full-time members, Qamar, Yasmin, Eiliyah, and Inayah. Your positive energy and smiles are contagious!
