January Ski Events in Park City
Winter is one of the many reasons so many people choose Promontory in Park City. Your entire family gets to enjoy a better quality of life. The first of the major ski events happening in January is the FIS (Fédération International De Ski) Freestyle World Cup, from January 7th through January 10th. Some of the world’s very best freestyle skiers will be showing off their skills in a variety of different competitions, including aerials, half-pipe, moguls and slopestyle events.
The FIS Freestyle World Cup is now in its 35th year, but it’s just as exciting to watch today as ever. If you want to take time to enjoy some of the very best in acrobatic and high-energy skiing, then head on over to the Olympic runs in Deer Valley, between January 7th and 10th for some powder-fuelled fun!
The Best Things In Life Are Free! That’s the best thing folks – all of the FIS Freestyle Events are free for public spectators, plus you even get music and fireworks thrown in for the opening night on Lower Main Street, thanks to the blues grooves of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood.
Giant Slalom: Another skiing event running near Park City this January is the Giant Slalom, which runs from January 5th to January 10th. Although not the fastest skiing event in existence, you can still expect to see highly-trained skiers reach speeds in excess of 40 km/h as they descend the course, expertly navigating the poles as they go. This is another FIS-run event, which means you can expect a professional and exciting show, from start to finish. The first giant slalom events to run between January 5th and January 10th are the RMISA Alpine Qualifier rounds, with the women’s all day event taking place on January 6th, while the men’s all day even takes places on the 7th instead. January 9th and 10th sees the University of Utah Invitational running an all day men’s giant slalom event on January 10th, with an all day women’s giant slalom event on January 9th.
Come See Park City Skiing in Action! If you have a hankering to see some amazing skiing completely free of charge, then we can wholeheartedly recommend attending either of the above events. Both the FIS Freestyle World Cup and the Giant Slalom appeal to completely different audiences, but that means there’s an event for every member of your family to enjoy. Even if you’re just visiting Park City, with a view to moving here, spending a few hours at either of these skiing events will give you a real insight into why people love living here.
