Blue Ribbon Trout Fishing In Utah – The Trip Of A Lifetime!

Blue Ribbon Trout Fishing in Utah

If you’re a fishing fan, then you’ve probably heard tales of fabled Blue Ribbon trout fishing, and just how amazing the catch can be. The good news is that anyone in Park City can enjoy fishing for some of the rarest Blue Ribbon waterways and reservoirs available anywhere in the United States. The crystal clear rivers in the Park City area boast more trout per mile than almost any place else in the country, and a wide variety of popular trout for you to cast for, too!

What Is A “Blue Ribbon” Trout Stream?

When you find a Blue Ribbon stream, river, or reservoir it means that the fisheries in that area are of an extremely high quality. There are literally a handful of states in the entire country that have achieved the Blue Ribbon standard, and, lucky for you, Utah happens to be just one of those states!

For visitors or residents of Park City, it means that the best trout fishing anywhere in North America is at their back door – it’s really that simple.

Provo River

This is the first Blue Ribbon trout river worth to mention here. You can rely on the Provo River to provide you with numerous excellent trout fishing opportunities along its 70-mile length. Not only that, the Rainbow and Brown trout found in the Provo River regularly exceed record lengths, with a typical trout caught measuring at least 18 inches, and often quite a bit more. The longest stretch of the river is the “Upper Provo.” To access it, and some of the very best fishing spots – often on private land – you’ll need to make use of local guides who know the area and the property owners well to add to your experience.

Weber River

The 75 miles of the south-flowing Weber River make up the second Blue Ribbon trout river near Park City. During any given fishing trip along the Weber, you can expect to catch Brown, Cutthroat and Rainbow trout, and in surprisingly large quantities! If you’re taking a break from fishing, there’s a variety of campgrounds and picnic areas nearby.

Both rivers are generally a good choice for year-round fishing. Make sure to chat with our Promontory Outfitter or the local fly and bait shop staff to get tips on what makes the deep-swimming trout bite. The fish around Park City are accustomed to fly fishermen, so you may need to up your game to land some real record breakers!

Your Trip

You can set out on your own or organize a fishing trip using any of the excellent guided fishing tour operators in the area. Sometimes a little bit of local knowledge can go a long way, especially considering that you’re fishing in a part of the United States which can still be considered “wild”.

Fortunately, at Promontory you can have your whole trip planned and organized by the Promontory Outfitter so all you have to do is show up! So why not take your first step towards landing that Blue Ribbon trophy trout you’ve always dreamed about? At least then, you’ll never have to tell your story about the “…one that got away” ever again.
