AJGA Rolex Coming to Promontory!
We recently received an exciting notice from Promontory that the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) is holding the Rolex Girls Junior Championship golf tournament on the Pete Dye Canyon Course the week of June 11th during the 2018 golf season. How cool to have this in our backyard! My children, Jack and Katie, are hoping they will get to meet kids their own age who may become famous golfers one day.
AJGA is the organization that developed top players on the LPGA and PGA circuits. Just some of the names that have risen to the top ranks who started at the AJGA level include Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr, Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, Anna Nordqvist, and Lexi Thompson. Needless to say, the Promontory members are excited to welcome some future stars of the LPGA to our spectacular community. This is quite a prestigious event to be hosting and a great way to showcase Promontory’s high-level golf culture!
On Monday, June 11th, we can partner with one of the Junior players at their fundraising tournament. The tournament will raise money for AJGA charities like the Ace Grant, local junior golf organizations, and our very own Promontory Foundation, which is dedicated to donating funds to Park City’s non-profit organizations.
The actual tournament schedule can be viewed HERE. We will be out there watching for sure, and the public is welcome to attend, but access is somewhat limited. If you’re interested in attending, you call our Head Pro, Cole Carlson, at 435-333-4720.
I also heard that volunteers are needed. As a golf fan, I am looking forward to signing up as a volunteer. Several of my fellow members are opening their Promontory Homes, Residences, and Villas to house the players and their families for the week. Promontory Members sure enjoy welcoming guests to Park City! What a fun way to see the action on the greens and meet more members of this amazing community. I already spoke with Tournament Chair Lisa Hardy, who is also a Promontory member. She welcomes those interested in volunteering to contact her at 801.372.4488 or lisa.c.hardy@gmail.com.
I have a feeling that this incredible exposure to high-level golfing talent will ignite Jack and Katie’s interest in the sport and certainly get their Dad excited for some Father’s Day golf to follow.
