In Celebration of the Tree. April 22nd is Earth Day.

April 18th, 2012 · Golf, Homes at Promontory, Living, Outfitter

April 22nd is Earth Day. Around the country people will be reminded of the Earth and its value and beauty it provides for all of us. A tree symbolizes the earth and its changing beauty through the seasons. Trees furnish us with food and oxygen and play a vital role for our very existence. Amazing natural beauty is found around the world but none other compares to the beauty of Park City Utah and Promontory’s community. The array of trees that can be found in the foothills and the mountains in the  wide open spaces and green belt trails is amazing beauty. Majestic mountains with all their trees  are just a few reasons why people choose Promontory!

Promontory’s development knows the value of the tree. Planting several thousand of Aspen as the development first started the trees have become special places for so many on property. Children enjoy the times of imagination through the trees. And for the chirping robins to the great horned owl, trees are a haven and a home. Families enjoy the sounds of the quaking aspen as the gentle wind rustles the leaves each morning. Enjoying the quiet and the stillness on an evening stroll through meadows of trees is a moment for many young and old to share.

Architectural and engineering functions are served by having trees. Trees frame our wonderful landscapes, our playgrounds and create a beautiful design of nature for our homes.  Around our golf courses trees and scrubs border the places we play and mingle. Clubhouses and ponds have an array of color and beauty from the trees.

Joyce Kilmer’s an American poet wrote her poem “Trees” in 1914, it captures the essence we see and feel when we are amongst the trees.

“I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest. Against the sweet earths flowing breast.

A tree that may in summer wear. A nest of robins in her hair.

Upon whose bosom snow has lain, who intimately loves the rain.

Poems are made by fools like me. But only God can make a tree. ”

May everyday be Earth day. May every tree represent a moment in time when the landscape of your life brought you to that special place amongst the trees that you find here at Promontory.

Recycling at Promontory: Going Green

April 17th, 2012 · Living

In collaboration with Promontory’s conservancy and “curb it recycling” Promontory residents can recycle and continue to go green!

Curb It Recycling, a local recycling company, provides residential recycling pick up in Promontory. As an owner participant, you pay the monthly rate ($15/month for pick up once a week) and purchase your own bin from the recycling company. Bins are $90 for a 50-gallon bin. The company will provide weekly curbside pick-up at your residence (will do more frequent pick-ups for an extra fee) and will accept paper, plastics, cardboards, aluminum, tin, AND GLASS.

You may email Curb It at info@curbitrecycling.com or call the company at 435-901-2568 to sign up for this service immediately!

Promontory also has an onsite recycle bin so that members and their guests can be more eco-friendly when on property. The bin is located near the West Gate directly south of the Equestrian Center. The County empties our bin on Wednesday afternoons.

As the bin is a co-mingled one, materials do not have to be sorted, and CAN include the following
•Newspaper (including inserts) and Magazines
•Corrugated Cardboard and Brown Paper Bags
•Phone Books
•Paperboard (including paper towel and toilet paper rolls only and shoe boxes)
•Junk Mail
•Office Paper and Notebook Paper
•Plastics #s 1-7 (the number will be in the recycling symbol on the container)
•Plastic Grocery Bags
•Aluminum Cans (Must be rinsed and crushed)
•Steel Food Cans (Must be rinsed and crushed)
•Plastic-Coated Milk and Juice Cartons (Must be rinsed and crushed)

Items that may NOT be included in the container are:
•Glass
•Yard Waste (i.e. trees, limbs, grass, dirt, weeds, etc.)
•Scrap Metal, Small Appliances, Clothing, Food Wrappings, Toilet paper, and Paper towels
•Hazardous materials (i.e. tires, oil, paint, etc.)

Please note that contamination of the recycle load will create an additional disposal charge for the Conservancy. It is EXTREMELY helpful to rinse and crush all bottles and cans before putting them in the recycling container. This assists with eliminating odor and the prevention of insets, and also conserves space. We appreciate your cooperation in this regard.

Promontory’s Director of Golf, Tom Rogers

March 22nd, 2012 · Golf, Living

Park City’s Private Golf Club and Residential Community offers Award Winning Golf at Promontory. Tom Rogers, Director of Golf is ready for another great golf season!

Spring is just around the corner. As the snow melts from Promontory’s two award winning golf courses, the Promontory staff get ready for another great golf season.

Tom Rogers, Director of Golf is looking forward to seeing a lot of time on the courses with our members.   Born and raised in Hanover, Massachusetts, Tom found his passion for golf at the age of 11.  Playing along side his father and brother, the names of Palmer, Player and Nicklaus were always in his life.  In 1973 he turned professional then after going to PGA business schools in Orlando and Phoenix he was elected to PGA membership in 1977.

Tom’s interaction with our Promontory members has made coming to play golf not just about the sport but about relationships.  He learned early in his career from Bob Kletcke, to “wake up every day with a smile and a double dose of patience and to treat every member and guest as you want to be treated”. Tom’s greatest memories come from when he worked at Augusta and the Masters Tournament from 1975 to 1977. he was able to be around such greats as Hogan, Nelson, Snead, Sarazen, and Nicklaus.  Watching greats like Palmer, Player, Trevino, Miller, Watson and Ballesteros  was an great experience for Tom.

Promontory’s private courses are award winning for good reason.  Tom says that what makes Promontory’s courses so special evolves around the great variety of holes, challenges and vistas. In his words he says, “the Dye Canyon and Painted Valley courses are beautifully maintained and present separate and unique challenges to scratch golfers, beginning players and all in between. Once a player understands the proper approach angles to our challenging green complexes, both courses become an absolute joy to play day in and day out! ”

A teaching philosophy that centers  around 5 key basics are rules Tom lives by.  Grip, set up and posture, top of swing position, perfect balance in the finish position if possible and most importantly, impact.  Tom and his staff of professionals are willing and able to help take players to the next level using these 5 basic principles.

Golf can be life-altering when you combine an amazing fairway overlooking Olympic ski runs with your best-ever tee shot. Find your game at the finest Park City Private Golf Club, featuring the  Golf Digest magazine ranked the Dye and Nicklaus courses the #2 and #3 in Utah, respectively.

The Nicklaus and Dye golf courses have their own driving ranges and practice facilities.  Now is the time to start making your plans for a great spring and summer on our private golf courses! For Promontory golf members, this means great golf all spring and summer long! Promontory offers Park City’s award winning golf courses to golf members.
