Join the Promontory Foundation and support KPCW during their fund drive week! The Promontory Foundation has a challenge grant of $2,500.00 and is hoping for 25 calls while Rich Sonntag and Beth Armstrong take your pledges Tuesday, February 7th. 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.

Summit and Wasatch County’s community radio KPCW keeps us all connected. The Community of Promontory relies on our local radio to keep us informed. With the wide variety of reporting and local flare, the radio station has been keeping listeners informed for over 30 years. The station began broadcasting on Park City’s Main street in the Memorial Building, the space was called the Bunker. (Now that space is home to Harry O’s.) After a few years in the Bunker, the station moved to Marsac avenue where the station broadcasted for years. In 2008 the station made its permanent home on Suede Alley . With windows overlooking Suede Alley you can see from the street live broadcasting. KPCW is an award winning community radio station. The station has won several Utah broadcasting awards. The station is an affiliate of NPR, which can be heard throughout the day. The current “public affairs” reporting heard each morning from 9:00 a.m-10:00 a.m.is locally produced. You can count on KPCW to keep you updated, entertained and educated as you drive, work or play. The Board of KPCW encourages you to keep your “community voice” on air! Promontory’s own, Managing Director Rich Sonntag, is a volunteer board member for the station. Kathy Carr, Youth Director helps during fund raising events and coordinates with Promontory youth to visit and be a part of the station. Beth Armstrong, Promontory’s Membership and Foundation Director helps during fundraising events encouraging members to call and donate.

Promontory, Park City’s premier community, encourages that connection for everyone who wants to keep up with local news and entertainment. Reports from current city council meetings to school board updates helps members and their families stay connected to all that affects their community. With live streaming, facebook , twitter and now a new youtube its easy to stay connected to your local community voice, KPCW.

Sundance Film Festival 2012 a Big Success

Located just minutes from the the Festival, Promontory members and their guests enjoyed a great week of film and volunteer work! Sundance 2012 was a big success. Many movies that premiered at the festival will continue to have a life after coming to Park City Utah. “Redlights”, which is a follow up movie from 2010,is a supernatural thriller directed by Rodrigo Cortes. Millennium Entertainment acquired the film. The film stars Robert De Niro as a world famous psychic. Elizabeth Olsen and Cillian Murphy play two paranormal experts. The film does not have a release date as of yet.

“Arbitrage” was acquired by two companies. Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions will work together in releasing the film. Last year the same two companies teamed together and purchased the film “Margin Call”. “Arbitrage” stars Richard Gere as a Banker who scrambles to prevent his life from falling apart. He becomes involved in a crooked investment deal and a car accident.

A movie set in the near future, stars Frank Langella, who is given a robot companion by his children and forms an odd relationship with it. The movie called “Robot and Frank” was acquired by Samuel Goldwyn and Sony Pictures.

Promontory members enjoyed several movies and events. Including the anticipation of this weekends awards showcase. With the shuttle service provided for Promontory members, Sundance is enjoyed with ease and helping to achieve the goal of a “greener” festival.

A special event for one of our own, Beth Armstrong. Celebrating 5 years as a Sundance volunteer,she not only got another Kenneth Cole jacket but was able to volunteer at the Alumni room. The Alumni room helps make it easy for film makers, directors and others to get their credentials for the festival event. The Armstrong’s also hosted an array of Sundance guests. Beth says of her experience as a volunteer, “The festival was well organized and offered so many outstanding films this year.She loves the energy the festival brings to the community.”

Being a volunteer helps the Park City community and brings a sense of community to locals and to visitors.

As the festival closes and the store fronts on main street take down their signs, it is sure to have been a festival that have caused many to “Look Again” fullfilling the goal of the Sundance Institute.

Promontory is proud to be so close to the festival and to be able to offer Promontory members a great setting for the weeks of Sundance.

Promontory Women Enjoy a Day at Deer Valley Ski Resort.

Reflections on Promontory’s 10th Year Anniversary

Highlights of our 10th Anniversary Year!

It’s hard to believe that Promontory celebrated it’s 10 year milestone in 2011. As we reflect back to 2001, the first Promontory amenity was our Deer Valley Lodge. We had cozy mixers there that first winter, and with that, our community was born. The Pete Dye Golf Course, Outfitter’sand Kid’s Cabin, followed and ten years later, The Shed’s construction continues to be on schedule with a summer opening. Promontory continues to offer the best amenities of any Mountain Recreational Club in the country!

With 149 new sales closed in 2011 and another 17 already closed or pending for 2012, the on-site sense of community is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. Spectacular buildings and amenities are all enhanced by families who come together and call Promontory their home! Promontory’s vision of a world wide second home community has come a long ways during the past ten years with members from Brazil, to Mexico, Canada and Singapore and almost every state in the country, we have grown tremendously!

Truly the heart of the community is the membership and the great relationships that have been made during the past ten years. The future looks bright for continued success for Promontory,Park City’s private residential community.

Promontory Members Enjoy Sundance Film Festival

Sundance Film Festival runs January 26th through January 28th. This weekend opened with rave reviews from critics and from attendees of the first movies to premiere. With snowfall in the mountains and the buzz in the air for all that is Sundance the event looks to be another successful venture for independent film makers and for all who enjoy “looking again” from the audience.

Robert Redford, along with John Cooper and Kari Putman opened the festival with a press conference at the Egyptian Theater. In Mr. Redford words he called our times “grim and in a state of paralysis.” Many films reflecting these hard times and the tragedy and the triumphs of the day. This year marks the first year that all premier movies will be looking for immediate distribution. With advances in technology many film makers in the past who did not get distribution were left to their own creative ways, now technology opens the world through digital media.

Promontory members shuttled their way to the festival events. Along with friends who traveled from around the country they have enjoyed the first weekend of the festival and say, “its better than ever!” The Thai family enjoyed the screening of “Red Lights” and were thrilled to hear from the Director and the actors which included Robert DeNiro, Cillian Murphy,Sigourney Weaver,Elizabeth Olsen, and Joely Richardson.

Another film to watch for is ”Beasts of the Southern Wild” Distribution looks positive as many are pursuing the film.

“It is truly amazing to be able to live in beautiful Park City Utah, at Promontory, knowing that this wonderful park city private community is here for our family and our friends year round and especially during the festival!”

Just a few weeks ago during the Christmas holiday, a nervous young man hiked in the snowy hills behind the Outfitter’s cabin with his girlfriend. Finding the right time to propose marriage he found the perfect spot amongst the aspen trees and snow. Together they shared the moment in the rustic Outfitter’s cabin. With the help of our skilled food and beverage team, the evening will be memorable! Seated beside the fireplace with the views off the back deck, the young couple began to make plans for their future.

Cristina’s 5th birthday party was pure magic. Rapunzel stopped by for face painting and games. While making pottery, the children giggled and laughed in their magical celebration. After all, the “real” Rapunzel came that day!

Pool side parties and winter ski outings for the weekend are popular as well. Eva likes to bring her best friends to town when the powder is fresh, experiencing great skiing and making dinner reservations at the Hearth! When Tamara turned 40 she hosted her friends to a night out bringing them to Promontory for the big event.

Family milestones and reunions and birthday celebrations bring families together at Promontory! Roger celebrated his birthday with all his family and grandchildren. They golfed and enjoyed the July 4th activities together!

“Look Again” Sundance Film Festival 2012

This year’s Sundance film festival is called “Look Again” with the belief that a good story can shift ones life causing them to “look again”. Through the eyes of independent film makers some of those “look again” movies include “Grizwald, a short film directed by J. Bernie, or Cutter Hoderne’s “Fishing with Nets”. Rick Alverson’s “The Comedy” and Bart Cayton’s The Imposter are others to watch for. The movie entitled “The Last Elvis” by Armando Bo is the directors debut film. With 200 films to choose from there will surely be a film that does just what the visionary, Robert Redford had in mind when he said, “Storytellers broaden our minds: engage, provoke, inspire, and ultimately, connect us.”

Look Again. Sundance 2012

This year’s Sundance festival is sure to achieve the vision. During the weeks of January 19th through the 29th, Park City and surrounding cities will be home to all that “inspires” us. Independent film makers will showcase their best works from around the globe. With over 200 films 50,000 people will attend screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance Utah.
