Promontory’s “Longest Day” Recap

June 27th, 2010 · No Comments · Events, Golf, Living

Low expectations, High scores, and good times!

On June 21st, the longest day of the year, we stretched our Painted Valley course to an insane 8,357 yards.  This was the ‘longest course in America’ that day and we challenged our members to come out and see what kind of score they post.

Both members and professional staff showed up to take on the challenge and as suspected, scores proved the course won the battle.

Very few members broke 90 but there were some great accomplishments.  C.J. Haws posted the low round of the day with an incredible 78, and was the only player in the field to break 80.  There were other successes during the day as I witnessed Tom Steinmetz step up to the challenge at the age of 66.  Tom is a 25 handicap and just to attempt this was a success but on top of that he just barely missed a putt by an inch right of the hole on number 1 for a par.  The first hole that day measured 733 yards and he played it just as well as anyone.  Next time you see Tom on the range congratulate him for great accomplishment.

Promontory also invited a hand-full of media guests to come take the “Longest Day” challenge.  I have never seen so many people so pleased to shoot over 100.  They were all great sports and were blown away at the course our members get to play everyday.  Rick Aaron from Fox 13 was among the group of media that came out to take on the Painted Valley.  If you didn’t catch the broadcast on the news that night, watch it here at Fox 13 Now.

I want to thank everyone who participated and we look forward to doing it again next year. Thanks to the crew that keep our course beautiful and all the golf staff that made this event great.
