Growing up at Promontory

June 16th, 2010 · No Comments · Kid's Activities, Living

When  Jack was just 5 and Natalie  was 3  their parents bought at Promontory.  Now five years later at age 10  and 8 the kids have come to see how they have “grown” up at Promontory.

Growing up with soccer camp, movie camp, business camp and the July 4th activities are many of the activities they know well here. From the first planted tree done by the kids cabin children  five years ago, to the children’s garden, growing has taken on a whole new meaning!

Understanding how the native plants at Promontory grow to understanding what kids do for fun as they grow is what makes Promontory a special place.  The kids helped plant a garden which is filled with herbs, vegtables and their favorite-cherry tomatos.  During the warm summer days children will be able to watch the garden grow.  From a lesson on compost and understanding about buying local, to how to cook yummy snacks using garden fresh veggies, the kids will have a great time this summer “growing” as the garden grows!

We as the  kids cabin staff would like to thank Utah State University Ag in the Classroom and Utah’s Own, along with Miller’s Honey and Lehi Roller Mills (home of the movie Footloose!) for the insightful training and great ideas!  We have taken their ideas and working on a great summer garden and composting more efficiently.
