Some of our Earth Day highlights here at Promontory begin with the annual tree planting! Blue Spruce trees are a popular site on property as are the Aspen trees, so the kids have joined in and helped plant a new tree each year!
We have implemented many energy saving ideas including purchasing earth-friendly disposable items and updating to energy efficient lighting.
Many of the food served at our restaruants is purchased from local growers and you can find many organic products available on property.
With all outdoor activities at Promontory, it’s easy to see that Earth Day is celebrated daily! This year, along with planting trees, a small garden area will be built and planting will begin in early May. We plan to add more bird feeders around the adventure trail area helping to feed the many variety of birds that locate their homes during the summer months on property.
Earth Day marks the start of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and Autumn in the Southern. Earth Day is designed to build awareness, a day to inspire appreciation for the Earth’s environment. Earth Day itself was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson to be an evnironmental teaching and awareness day in the 1970′s.
Over the years, people around the world have come to realize the impact each one has on the environment. Companies and communities have made adjustments to becoming more green. Basic changes in daily routines do make a big difference –sharing a ride to work, turning off lights, not letting water run so long along with many more ideas. For more information on how you and your family can help our environment visit the official Earth Day website. Make it a daily celebration!
Continue the celebration this Saturday!
